The Ohioan Wedding DJ Guide: Planning Music in Lewis Center

The Ohioan Hotel & Event Center in Lewis Center offers several indoor reception rooms and outdoor settings. Here is how to plan ceremony audio, cocktail flow, announcements, dance-floor energy and lighting around the space you actually book.

Start here.

The Ohioan can support very different wedding-day music plans because its official wedding pages list the Edgewater Room, Grand Ballroom, NorthPointe Ballroom and multiple outdoor settings. The DJ plan should start with the assigned room, then map where guests hear vows, cocktails, introductions, dinner and dancing. Confirm the operational details with the venue before finalizing equipment or timeline.

Start with the room, not the playlist

The Ohioan's spaces have distinct visual and spatial cues. The Edgewater Room is described as a window-filled Tuscan-inspired room overlooking a two-acre pond, with a fireplace and dance floor. The Grand Ballroom is a 6,000-square-foot room with exposed brick, tall palladium windows, expanded pre-function space and an outdoor courtyard with fireplaces and a fire pit. NorthPointe is a 4,500-square-foot ballroom with 18-foot ceilings, pre-function space, a Study and a private courtyard.

Those details affect how I would plan the room. In a window-heavy or courtyard-connected setup, keep the dance floor visually central and make sure the DJ, speakers and lighting do not interrupt the strongest guest sightlines. In a larger ballroom, the microphone position and speaker coverage need to be planned so a guest at the back can follow toasts without the front table getting blasted. Ask for the final floor plan, not just the room name.

Ceremony and cocktail hour: solve the transitions

The official wedding pages describe both indoor and outdoor ceremonies, plus outdoor areas including a poolside patio, brick-paved terrace, landscaped lawns and a white pergola. That makes weather and guest movement part of the music plan. If the ceremony is outside and the reception is inside, confirm exactly where the ceremony microphone, speaker and DJ control point can go, and how quickly the setup must change.

During cocktails, music should support conversation rather than compete with it. The Grand Ballroom's pre-function area can be used as a cocktail lounge or extension of the main event, while NorthPointe has pre-function space and a Study. Ask whether guests will stay in that area, move to a patio, or return to the main room. That answer determines speaker placement, cocktail-hour volume and when the formal entrance can happen.

Reception audio, announcements and dance-floor energy

Build the timeline around clean handoffs: ceremony exit, cocktails, room reveal, introductions, dinner, toasts, first dance and open dancing. At The Ohioan, the pre-function areas and courtyards may create more than one guest zone, so your planner and DJ should agree on where people are expected to be for each announcement. A wireless microphone is useful only when its range and venue permissions are confirmed in advance.

For lighting, match the room instead of flooding it. The Edgewater fireplace and pond view, the Grand Ballroom brick and windows, and NorthPointe's high ceiling already provide character. Ask what existing fixtures remain on, what the venue allows a DJ to add, and whether lighting can be positioned without blocking windows, exits or photography angles.

Questions to confirm before booking the DJ plan

The public pages identify rooms and features, but they do not answer every production question. Put these items in writing with the venue and planner:

  • Where may the DJ and speakers be placed in the booked room, and is a dedicated table or power source provided?
  • What are the approved load-in route, setup window, teardown deadline and parking instructions for vendors?
  • Are there sound, candle, haze, uplighting or outdoor amplification restrictions for this event?
  • If the ceremony is outside, what is the rain plan, and when is the final location decision made?
  • Can the DJ make announcements in the pre-function area, courtyard or patio, and what microphone system is available?

Planning checklist

  • Name the exact room and request its current floor plan.
  • Mark ceremony, cocktail, dinner, dance floor, DJ and photo locations.
  • Confirm the indoor backup for every outdoor music moment.
  • Send the DJ the final timeline, formal names and pronunciation notes.
  • Walk the room with the planner and venue contact before the wedding if possible.
