If you are planning a wedding at Oak Grove, ask the venue and your DJ to build one sound and room plan for the Greenhouse, Cottage and Main Hall rather than treating the property as one generic ballroom. Jorgensen Farms lists those three Oak Grove spaces with different layouts and seated dinner figures, so the ceremony, cocktail hour, dinner and dancing may need separate decisions about microphones, speaker placement and transitions.
What Oak Grove includes
The official Oak Grove page describes a secluded woodland venue and names three event spaces: the Greenhouse, Cottage and Main Hall. Its capacity chart lists the Greenhouse at 2,400 square feet, the Cottage at 1,200 square feet and the Main Hall at 4,320 square feet. For seated dinner, the page lists 125 in the Greenhouse, 72 without a bar or 64 with a bar in the Cottage, and 250 with a dance floor in the Main Hall.
Those figures are useful for planning, not a substitute for your contract or floor plan. The official weddings page says Oak Grove can host up to 250 guests for a ceremony and reception, while the Greenhouse is listed there at 200 seated with additional standing room. Confirm which figure applies to your package and exact setup before you design a reception timeline.
Ceremony sound in a wooded setting
A woodland venue can look quiet in photos while still producing real audio variables. For the ceremony, the priority is intelligible vows and a microphone that can reach the officiant without making the couple repeat themselves. Your DJ should know whether the ceremony is outdoors or in one of the listed spaces, where guests face, and where a speaker can sit without blocking sightlines or competing with photographs.
Have the venue identify the ceremony location and the wet-weather location. Ask what changes if the ceremony moves indoors, including the processional route, microphone handoff and time available to move equipment. Do not assume an outdoor ceremony includes the same power access, coverage or setup window as the reception.
Cocktails, dinner and the dance floor
The Main Hall is the Oak Grove space whose official chart specifically includes a seated dinner figure with a dance floor. That makes the room plan worth discussing early. A DJ needs a clear view of the dance floor, a practical position for the booth and enough separation from guest tables for clean announcements. If cocktails happen elsewhere, decide how guests will be directed into dinner and when the music changes from background level to a dance invitation.
For the Greenhouse or Cottage, ask how tables, bar service and dancing fit together for your actual count. The Cottage chart changes from 72 seated without a bar to 64 with a bar, which is a reminder that service elements affect usable room. These are venue-listed planning figures, not a promise of what your contract allows.
Lighting, planning and weather questions
Oak Grove's woodland character calls for lighting that helps people see without washing out the setting. Discuss practical illumination for the DJ area, entrances, steps and guest paths. Then decide whether dance lighting stays focused on the floor or reaches the surrounding room. Your DJ and venue coordinator should share one timeline so announcements, meal service and room transitions do not compete.
Jorgensen's weddings page says each wedding package includes a designated Venue Coordinator who manages the day-of timeline, vendor coordination and ceremony rehearsal. Use that planning contact to confirm the operational details that are not stated on the public pages: arrival window, load-in route, power access, outdoor sound limits, rain call timing and what equipment can remain in place during a room change.
Oak Grove DJ planning checklist
Bring these questions to your tour and DJ planning call:
- Which Oak Grove space is booked, and which spaces are available for each event segment?
- What are the approved DJ location, speaker orientation, setup window and power source?
- Where will the ceremony microphone, readings and processional music be handled?
- How do guests move from cocktails to dinner and from dinner to dancing?
- What is the rain plan, and when is the final location call made?
- Who gives the DJ the cue for entrances, toasts, dinner service and the exit?
A few good questions.
